Gameplay Cycle

Below is an outline for the primary loop that our game will run within. Each of the primary bullets is a different game "screen", and all subsidiary bullets are intended to give a short description of what will transpire on the given screen.

  1. Opening screen
    • Switch to High Score screen (15 seconds wait)
    • Switch to “How to play” screen (30 seconds wait)
    • Return to opening screen
  2. Player Sign-up screen
    • Players press button to join game
    • Players select avatar
  3. Weapon selection screen
    • Players select weapons
    • Players select order of weapons (order of cycling through weapons)
  4. “How to Play” screen
    • Display Avatar
    • Show joystick controls – how it affects avatar
      • Move left / right
      • Aim up / down
    • Show button controls
      • Fire – avatar shoots
      • Jump – avatar jumps
      • Grappling Hook – avatar shoots hook to ceiling, then releases
      • Swap Weapon – avatar switches through all weapons, firing intermittently
    • Show one avatar “killing” another
    • Show avatar respawn
  5. Combat (main game) screen
    • Players can move around and damage another
    • Players have hit points
      • Health / ammunition bars displayed beneath player avatar
      • Players can be “killed”
      • Players respawn at random location on map
      • Respawned players are invincible for several seconds
    • Score
      • Receive 10 points for each successful hit on an enemy
      • Receive 100 points for each enemy "kill"
      • Lose 100 points for each "suicide
  6. Victory Screen
    • Displays score
    • Displays winner
  7. High Score Screen
    • Displays top ten scores & names in descending order from top-to-bottom
  8. Back to opening screen
